Residency-Work

I was in residence at the Cable Factory in Helsinki, Finland, on an Arts Council Fellowship hosted by HIAP (Helsinki International Artists Project)

I was awarded a two-month Fellowship in Live Art in Helsinki, Finland, by the Arts Council of England and the Helsinki International Artists Programme. I was based at the Cable Factory and from October to the end of November I made several pieces of Live Art work, including,-
HELSINKI GETS THE MESSAGE – PART 1 – Writing On The Sea
I covered the floor of the Cable Factory’s huge SeaCableHall with 300kilograms of salt, “wrote” in it as I walked with a long flowing train, then “erased” the writing wuth a benzene-powered leaf-blower. (Photographs - Artur Zmijewski)

HELSINKI GETS THE MESSAGE – PART 2 – Carrying The Cable
I carried a length of cable from the Cable Book Library in the centre of Helsinki to the Cable Factory on its Western edge asking people I met to take a photograph of me.

LOST MONUMENTS OF HELSINKI
Interested by the number of public monuments in the city I found some locations where there weren’t monuments and placed myself there as “Living Monuments” to forgotten icons. Shown above are “”Liberty Comes From Over The Seas” and ”Leningrad Cowgirl”. (Photographs - Tanja Koponen)

MAKE A FASHION POSE
Four times – in the Cable Factory, the Helsinki Art Academy, and twice at Kiasma, the city’s contemporary art museum, I offered myself as a fashion model to be posed and photographed by passers-by. Two prints were made of each shot – I sent one to the photographer and kept one for myself.

I also performed at HIAP’s 5th birthday party at the Taidehalle in November. I have video and picture documentation of all of the above.

I have also worked with various directors in their shows, - Guillermo Gomez-Pena in his installation, “Ex-Centris”,which opened the 2002 Liverpool Biennial, and Robert Pacitti, in the last performances of his show “Finale”. Here I am in “Finale” as a sexmonster in the empty reservoir where we performed.
